wishes for 2008 getting on the yellow bus
This is a time when we reflect on the past and make plans for the future. And I have been thinking about the yellow bus we chase. “The yellow life bus”………….
I believe that this bus travels at its own speed and we have no idea when or where we will get on. Or when we’ll get off…… But this story is only about getting on the bus. We have decided to board the bus. We want to board the yellow bus. And each of us, I think, has our own yellow bus.
As we pack our bags we don’t know what to pack and how to dress but we have made the decision. Will it rain or will it snow? Will the wind blow or will the sun shine? As we run towards it we adapt. As we run we get fit. As we run downhill our downhill muscles improve. As we run the route changes and we meet people and they have a message for us…if we listen. As we chase the bus, we get fitter and we start to share our bus-catching-wisdom with new- yellow-bus-chasers.
This reminds me of the book I read called “Oh! The Places You’ll Go!” by Dr. Seuss:
You’ll get mixed up, of course,
as you already know.
You’ll get mixed up
with many strange birds as you go.
So be sure when you step.
Step with care and great tact
and remember that Life’s
a Great Balancing Act.
Just never forget to be dexterous and deft.
And never mix up your right foot with your left.
You can read the rest of this great life story here.
But deciding to catch the bus is a risky choice. And some, like the perfectionists amongst us will never even get their bags packed. It takes them too long to prepare. Let Dr. Seuss continue……
Waiting for the fish to bite
or waiting for wind to fly a kite
or waiting around for Friday night
or waiting, perhaps, for their Uncle Jake
or a pot to boil, or a Better Break
or a sting of pearls, or a pair of pants
or a wig with curls, or Another Chance.
Everyone is just waiting.
NO!
That’s not for you!
Is taking risks then the answer?
“In the movie Ranging Bull, boxer Jack La Motta’s manager explains to him why he should shed some weight and fight an unknown opponent. After an intricate spiel that leaves La Motta baffled, he concludes, “So do it. If you win, you win, and if you lose, you win.””
2008 is upon us: “So do it. If you win, you win, and if you lose, you win.”
May you decide on your yellow bus and may you move mountains during 2008.
I have my running shoes on and am waiting to run part of the course with you.
